ChatGPT: The new bot from OpenAI
ChatGPT is one of the latest developments in generative AI. More precisely, it is a prototype by OpenAI for their new AI project. A chatbot that is supposed to be able to understand human dialogues and generate suitable answers that a human could not have answered better.
Fascinating and scary at the same time, isn’t it?
Here are the facts you need to know.
Let’s start with the basics: What does ChatGPT stand for?
GPT stands for Generative Pre-Trained Transformer. ChatGPT is an AI chatbot system. You may be familiar with the customer support chats that pop up when you enter a particular website or when you need help placing your order in an online shop, for example. The difference between the customer support chat and the chatGPT is the complexity. Instead of having a boring and frustrating chat with a normal chatbot that can only send selected response options, the ChatGPT can reject inappropriate requests, recognise its own mistakes, correct grammar, and summarise complex texts in a simplified way. In addition, the ChatGPT remembers the context of previous questions.
How does ChatGPT work?
Based on OpenAI’s language model GPT-3, ChatGPT is tuned to deep learning technologies and trained on an algorithm. The data for the algorithm comes from books, Wikipedia, or web scraping. The AI remembers the structures of human language so that it appears to answer with its own opinion. Of course, the ChatGPT is not capable of having its own opinion. The key word here is probability. It is a model whose goal is to predict the next word. If you use this model consistently, you get complete sentences, word for word.
How can you use it?
For some, it seems to be the new alternative to Google. But then it is not that simple. Unlike Google, ChatGPT cannot access the internet or external information. But it can be used to generate the context of web pages, or as a customer support bot, or for ratings and to create automated chatbots.
Can ChatGPT replace humans?
No. Although it is a complex system and can certainly assist us in certain tasks, it remains a human-developed and trained artificial intelligence that does not have the human mind it needs to be successful in its work. Furthermore, ChatGPT could also give misinformation but present it as fact. It cannot create anything new that has not already been created somewhere by humans. Nevertheless, it can be a support, especially in programming or customer support and speed up certain processes.
